Supreme Court returns PTI's petition to hold elections in 90 days
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Supreme Court on Thursday returned the constitutional petition of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to hold general elections in 90 days.
The Supreme Court's registrar office objected that the petitioner did not approach any relevant forum before coming to the Supreme Court. Moreover, the president cannot be made a party to the petition as per Article 248 of the Constitution, the court said.
It is not mentioned in the petition that which basic right of the petitioner was affected. The requirement of Article 184/3 to approach the Supreme Court directly in the petition was not fulfilled.
PTI had filed a petition through senior lawyer Ali Zafar, seeking to hold elections within 90 days and set aside the decision of the Council of Common Interests.
